9th Grade Government
Mr. Lorentzen
Purpose: During the course of this year you will have a better understanding of what it means to be an American citizen. We will discuss and cover the following topics:
Citizenship Our voting process
Different types of government Career exploration
Our Constitution Influential figures in American history
Celebrate Black History Month Presidents of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement
Assignments: *****No name = Half Credit
*****Assignments that are due must be passed all the way forward and then all the way over to the front right desk within 2 minutes of the period. If your assignment doesn’t get there by then, you get half credit.
Purpose of Homework: To extend learning opportunities beyond the confines of the classroom and to teach the importance of responsibility and good work ethic.
Make up or late assignments: You get two days to turn in make up work for full credit. Late work for half credit can be turned in all the way up to the last day of the trimester.
*****It is not my responsibility to remind you about make up work or work that needs to be turned in. Freshman need to be responsible enough to look at the white board or ask a friend what they missed. Also, after you find out, you should be responsible enough to get it done within two days and hand the material to me. Of course if you have any questions or need clarity, I will gladly help you.
Exams: If you miss the day before a test, which is a review day, you still have to take it.
Grade Distribution: (approximately)
Assignments = 25%
Chapter Tests = 40%
Alternative assessments (projects, activities, etc.) = 25%
Class participation / Behavior = 10%
Grading Scale:
My grading scale is the traditional grading scale.(90 - 100 = A, etc.) However, I will round up your grade. (Example - 79.5% = B-)
Rules:
The Rules within this Civics class will be consistent with the rules at the High School.
Four main rules are posted in the front and the back of the classroom.
You are tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings.(5 times =Automatic Failure)
*****You are allowed to leave this classroom 3 times per trimester. I will simply mark down every time you leave for the restroom, locker, etc. and when you reach four times you are done. One and a half points extra credit will be awarded for each unused pass.
