9th Grade World Cultures
Mr. Lorentzen
Purpose: Over the course of the trimester you will have a better understanding of various cultures and geography. A goal of the class is to broaden your horizons and gain a better appreciation of different belief systems. Get a chance to know and understand someone before passing judgment. We will discuss and cover the following topics:
-Current Events
-Geography and its role in influencing groups of people
-Various belief systems across the world (political/social/ religion)
-History and its role in influencing groups of people
Assignments: *****No name = Half Credit
*****Assignments that are due must be passed all the way forward and then all the way down to the front right desk within 2 minutes of the period. If your assignment doesn’t get there by then, you get half credit.
Make up or late assignments: You get 2 days to turn in make up work for full credit IF IT WAS HANDED OUT WHILE YOU WERE GONE. Late work for half credit can be turned in the whole way up until the last day of the trimester.
*****I will not personally remind you that you have make up work or work that needs to be turned in. Freshman need to be responsible enough to look at the whiteboard or ask a friend what they missed. Also, after you find out, you should be responsible enough to get it done within two days and hand the material to me. Of course if you have any questions or need clarity, I will gladly help you.
Exams: If you miss the day before, which is the review day, you still have to take the exam.
Grade Distribution: Assignments (maps) - 20%
Activities/Projects - 15%
Class Participation (behavior/attitude) - 10%
Exams/Quizzes - 55%
Rules:
The Rules within this Cultures class will be consistent with the rules of conduct throughout education. Four main rules are posted in the front and the back of the classroom.
TARDY: You are tardy for class if you are not in your seat when the bell rings. (5 times = automatic failure for the class)
*****You are allowed to leave this classroom four times per trimester. I will simply mark down every time you leave the room. (restroom, locker, etc.) When you reach your fourth time you are done. One and a half points extra credit will be awarded for each unused pass.
